Under Armour Baseball Player of the Week & NWAC Players of the Week - Week 2
THOMAS SCHEFFLER • WENATCHEE VALLEY
SOPHOMORE • PITCHER
Thomas Scheffler, Lake Washington HS / Kirkland, WA., pitched a gem against Blue Mountain last week to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. The 6'6" right hander tossed a three hit shutout with 16 strikeouts while issuing zero walks. Scheffler is now tied for the league's top mark in strikeouts with 41.
"We had to win and our ace threw the best game I have ever seen in this league," said Knights head coach Zach Clanton. "From pitch 1 to 117 the fastball was electric and he commanded the breaking ball for strikes. The tempo and the intensity that he pitched at was fun to watch. Not going to be a ton of arms better than this guy on a weekly basis."
NWAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - APRIL 4
Johnny Sage, West Valley, HS / Spokane, WA., reached base 13 times on 7 hits including 3 doubles and 1 home run to go with 6 walks while avoiding any strikeouts. He accounted for 6 runs and 4 RBIs while accumulating a .636 batting average over 4 games for the 2nd-ranked Yaks.
“Sage is a Northern Colorado commit with a next level approach," said YVC head coach Kyle Krustangel. "He was on base 13 out of 18 plate appearances. Johnny is off to a great start and has lead the way to the Yaks' great start.”
