Former Shoreline & Big Bend baseball standouts earn athletic honors at Bellevue University
BELLEVUE, NE -- Former NWAC standouts Cody Banks and Kory Longaker were named 1st team all North Star Athletic Association for baseball this past weekend. They were also both honored as Gold Glove recipients at their respective positions as well.
Banks (from Big Bend CC) has been a solid, reliable player on both sides of the ball while manning second base for the Bruins. In playing all 53 games, he has put up a .369/.443/.515 line that includes 20 extra-base hits. His 73 hits ranks him in the Top 50 nationally and he has totaled 36 RBI and 56 runs scored on the year. He has just three errors in 228 chances at second base for a .987 fielding percent.
Longaker (from Shoreline CC), the 2018 NSAA Player of the Year and 2018 NAIA 2nd team All-American, has put up nearly identical numbers in his senior season for Bellevue slashing .387/.453/.684 with 38 extra-base hits and 54 RBI while again playing exceptional defense at shortstop. He currently ranks second nationally in doubles (25), third in runs scored (78), eighth in hits (87), fifth in total bases (154), and 30th in slugging percentage. He has tallied an NAIA leading 156 assists on the year from his shortstop position while posting a .943 fielding percent.
Bellevue just capped off an impressive regular season, finishing with a 43-14 overall record while dominating the NSAA with a 23-1 conference mark. The #21 ranked Bruins won the 2019 NSAA Regular Season and Conference Tournament titles. The team has played extremely well down the stretch winning 36 of their last 37 games. The team has lost just one game since March 9th. The Bruins have advanced to the NAIA Opening Round Tournament for the 9th consecutive year.
