Tacoma represented at the World Baseball ClassicMexico City, Mexico – TCC baseball player Ashley Scott recently returned from competing with his native South Africa in the 2nd Annual World Baseball Classic. The sophomore pitcher/third baseman was a member for the second time in this international event held every four years. The World Baseball Classic is an international tournament created by Major League Baseball and featuring professional, as well as select collegiate players from around the world.
Scott is entering his first season with Tacoma, having transferred from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. He will rejoin the Titans when they begin conference play at the end of March.
Head Coach Donegal Fergus on Scott, “It is a proud moment for Ashley to be chosen to represent his country again on the international level. With baseball no longer an Olympic sport, the WBC has become the signature international baseball tournament. It gives me great pride, as it should the entire TCC community, to have one of our own competing at this level. He is competing for his country against the best players in the world. That is an unbelievable honor, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For Ashley to do this twice now says something about his dedication and ability. We could not be more proud of him.”
South Africa was eliminated from the tournament after losing to powerhouses Cuba and Mexico.
