Chemeketa lands two on NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards Finalist List
CLEVELAND – The National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) has announced the finalists for the 27th Annual NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards sponsored by Relation Insurance Services.
The male and female Scholar-Athlete Award winners will be formally recognized at NATYCAA’s Annual Convention, which will take place June 27-29 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
To be eligible, nominees must meet the following criteria: minimum 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale with a minimum of 36 semester hours or 45 quarter hours with a minimum of 24 semester/36 quarter hours at the nominating institution; participation in a minimum of one complete season of varsity competition at the nominating institution; outstanding athletics success; and outstanding qualities of leadership and citizenship.
Chemeketa Community College has placed two student-athlete basketball players on the finalist list. Jack Frazier, who plays men's team and Lakin Susee who plays for the women's team. Both head coaches of these students are excited at the prospect of their players winning this award.
"Lakin is the definition of excellent student/athlete," said head coach Kevin MCCarrell. "Her focus and attention to detail in the classroom directly shows by her grade point average. Lakin's focus is one of many attributes that made her the heart and sole of our team. With all of Lakin's success on and off the floor, her strongest attribute is most often over looked. She is a calming, confident, presence on the floor that all her teammates and coaches respect."
“Jack has been a model of excellence and consistency while at Chemeketa, both in the classroom and on the court, said head coach David Abderhalden. “His work ethic and commitment are obvious to those around him, and quickly earned him the respect of his teammates, making him a natural leader in our program."
