Walla Walla is back in the title game with 76-65 win over Spokane
Game #2 of the Men’s NWAC Semi-Final saw two long time east region rivals battle for the third time this year. The Warriors of Walla Walla Community College took on the Sasquatch from the Community Colleges of Spokane.
With North Idaho College already punching their ticket to the championship game, the championship game will be an east region affair. The Warriors defeated the Sasquatch 76-65 and will face the Cardinals tomorrow at 4:45pm.
It was quite obvious that these two teams were quite familiar with each other as the biggest led was only 5 points as WWCC led 23-18 with five minutes to go in the first half. Spokane answered right back with 5 straight points to tie it at 23.
Both teams traded baskets back and forth with the Warriors taking a 34-32 lead into the locker room at half-time.
In the first half, the Warriors were led by Damien Thacker’s 10 points and the Sasquatch were led by JR Delgado and Garrett White each with 7 points.
Early in the second half the Sasquatch took a 45-37 going on an 13-3 run to start the half. Warriors struggled to hit shots as the Sasquatch expanded their lead. The Warriors made a push to take the lead 52-51 under the ten-minute mark, with Thacker controlling the tempo and making big baskets. WWCC expanded their lead to 68-60 on two back to back baskets by Jake Costello.
Thacker led the Warriors in scoring with 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. He was supported by by David Howard 15 points and Jake Albright’s 10 rebounds. For the Sasquatch they were led by Garrett White’s 22 points, followed by Dedrick Pakootas 16 points, and Isiah Gotell with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Warriors will play the North Idaho Cardinals in the championship game, Sunday 3/17 at 4:45pm. The Warriors won the championship in 2017 and the Cardinals are the defending NWAC champions.
