Centralia's Marqus Gilson inks with Central Washington University
ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 20) – The Central Washington University men’s basketball team has signed Marqus Gilson from Centralia College for the 2019-20 season.
“Marqus is a versatile forward that can handle and pass it like a guard,” CWU head coach Brandon Rinta said. He plays with a ton of energy and does all the little things that help teams win.”
Gilson is a 6-foot-5 forward from Salt Lake City, Utah where he attended Westlake High School before attending Centralia. He garnered First Team Western All-Region honors this year. He averaged 19 points per game and shot 59.3 percent from the floor. Gilson also hauled in an impressive 8.8 rebounds per game. He finished fifth in the NWAC in blocks, swatting away 36 shots.
In the NWAC All-Star Game, Gilson was selected to the East-West All-Star squad and scored 14 points, hauled in seven rebounds, and blocked one shot. He finished 7-for-9 from the field with one assist.
Gilson helped guide Centralia into the NWAC SWEET 16 where the Trailblazers defeated Edmonds CC, 73-71. Centralia fell in the NWAC Elite 8 to eventual champion North Idaho.
In his freshman season at Centralia, Gilson averaged 19.9 points per game and 7.7 rebounds. For his efforts, Gilson was named the NWAC Freshman of the Year.
