Northern and Southern Region Cross Country Championships Results

Vancouver, WA -- The cross country region championships were held this past weekend. The Northern Region Championships took place at Lake Padden in Bellingham, WA while the Southern Region Championships were held on the campus of Clackamas CC in Oregon City, OR.

Clark College took the men's Southern Region title, just edging runner-up Lane by a single point 37 to 38.  Lane's Travis Stevens was the region's champion with a time of 25:55 in a photo finish win over his teammate Cesar Perez who also finished with a time of 25:55. [results]

Coach Ian Schroeder of Clackamas was named the Southern Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

In the North, Everett ran away with the men's title collecting 37 pts, 46pts ahead of runner-up Highline. Emmanuel Contreras of Everett was the men's champion with a time of 26:37, seven seconds ahead of runner-up Tim Welch, also from Everett. [results]

Coach Maureen Rowland of Skagit Valley and Matt Koenigs of Everett were named the Co-Northern Region Men's Cross Country Coaches of the Year.

On the women's side, Lane outdistanced runner-up Mt. Hood 31-60 to take the Southern Region team title. Brittany Henderson out-kicked Lane's MaCayla Claver by 21 seconds with a winning time of 19:03 to take the individual title. [results]

Coach John Scholl of Lane was was named the Southern Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

With a score of 15pts, Everett also claimed the women's title in the Northern Region sailing to a 35 point victory over runner-up Highline. Everett's Shawna Schooley cruised to the North's individual title with a time of 18:49 while teammate Valerie Massie took second with a time of 19:18. [results]

Coach Matt Koenigs of Everett was was named the Northern Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

The NWAACC Championships will take place November 14th at Lewisville State Park near Battlleground, WA. [view championship page].
