Lane alum Travis Thompson joins Oregon State Track & Field coaching staff
Travis Thompson joins the OSU staff along with another former Lane Titan Collin Cram who joined the Beavers' staff in 2013. Cram replaced Travis Floeck who was the Titans head cross country and track & field assistant in 2007-09. Floeck is now the head coach for the Idaho Vandals cross country team.
Travis joined the Beavers in February, 2015, as a volunteer assistant coach. He is a Newport native who graduated from NHS in 2006.
A former standout at Newport, Lane Community College (2006-08) and the University of Oregon (2008-11), he was a two-time All-American in the 800 meters for the Ducks, with a PR of 1:47.60 that ranks 8th on their all-time list.
He was also a two-time captain and ran on the distance medley relay team that won an indoor national championship in 2009. He graduated with a sociology degree.
Before coming to OSU, Thompson was the head sprints/relays/ middle distance coach at Lane from 2012-15 and helped lead the Titans to successive NWAC men's and women's team titles, their first championships in 15 years.
He coached 11 junior-college all Americans, eight individual NWAC champions, two NWAC relay championship teams, and his athletes set three school records.
Thompson holds a USATF level I coaching certification. His father, Terry, was a star for the Beavers in the 1960s.
