Spokane sweeps Cross Country Championships
Battle Ground, WA - The Spokane Sasquatch swept the men's and women's cross country championships held at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground, WA. All teams were met with a cool and rainy day.
The men's race started the day off first. Spokane's brothers Rigoberto Jimenez and Humberto Jimenez went first and second. Rigoberto won the title in 25:50. Everett's Yon Wilma finished third in 26:01 followed by Lane's Lukas Fenelu and Clark's Matt Moncour.
Spokane's depth proved overwhelming in the team competition. The Sasquatch had all five scorers in the top twelve for a team score of 32. Everett was second with 59 points, followed by Lane (88), Whatcom (108) and Clark (126).
The women's race was won by Whatcom's Laura Carlyle who beat defending champion Brittnee Sanchez from Spokane. Carlyle completed the 5k course in 18:50. Lane's Leah Twombly was third followed by 2006 NWAACC Champion Sheryl Page from Mt Hood and Spokane's Katie Owens rounded out the top five.
The Sasquatch women placed five runners in the top 10 to win the women's team competition with 34 points. Everett and Lane tied on points with 92 each. Everett won the tie based on head-to-head comparison of the top five runners. Everett's third, fourth and fifth runners all beat Lane's runners in the same spots. Whatcom was fourth followed by Clackamas.
Spokane's Erik Anderson was voted NWAACC Coach of the Year for both men and women.
