Ammons steps down as GRCC Cross/Track head coach
The Green River CC distance and track program suffered a significant setback this week with the resignation of Tori Ammons. The head cross country coach for the past four seasons, Ammons was instrumental in re-starting the GRCC track team in 2011 after the institution’s 20 year hiatus.
Named the 2010 NWAACC NW Region Women’s Coach of the Year and the 2012 NWAACC NW Region Men’s Coach of the Year, Ammons was committed to providing student athletes in the South Puget Sound area with the opportunity to continue developing in running and competing interscholastically while pursuing a college degree.
Citing her commitment to her full time teaching position at Auburn Mountainview HS, raising two daughters, and being a small business owner made it difficult to commit the necessary time to her student athletes.
“We are so appreciative of the time and efforts Coach Ammons has dedicated to her sport over the past four years,” said GRCC Athletic Director Bob Kickner. “I respect what she accomplished with little resources and am encouraged to have had her enthusiasm in our program as we will continue to try to build toward the future.”
Green River will begin its search immediately for a track coach to fill the role for the upcoming 2014 season. Interested applicants should contact Bob Kickner at [email protected]
