Spokane golf alum Grahm Schmaltz places 2nd in NCAA DI Event
Grahm Schmaltz came to the Community Colleges of Spokane with a very impressive playing resume. He won multiple high school and junior tournaments all over the state of Montana and held a couple course records with rounds in the low 60's.
During his time as a Sasquatch, Schmaltz earned 1st Team All-NWAC recognition in each of his 2 seasons and was a big contirbutuer in back-to-back NWAC team championships for CCS. After sitting out a year and attending the University of Montana, Grahm earned a spot on the Utah State University Men's Golf Team. He had a successful junior season, shooting many rounds around par and contributing with solid scores to help the team.
This past fall, Grahm's senior season, he competed in 14 tournament rounds and finished the fall with an impressive 73.07 scoring average. As impressive as averaging 73 is, he began the spring season at the Southern Utah hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational held at the Sunbrook Golf Club with scores that will surely lower his scoring average. Schmaltz carded a 3-under par 69 during the 1st round, leaving him in 6th place individually and helping his team to a 2nd place finish after day 1. He was 2-over par on the front 9 of day 2 before he started a string of birdies. Grahm shot a blistering 6-under par, 30 on his final 9 holes to earn a 2nd place finish with rounds of 68-69, 7-under par. His efforts helped Utah State finish in 5th place as a team in a strong field of play.
