North Idaho Men & Spokane Women claim 2017 NWAC Golf TItles
DUPONT,WA -- The Spokane Women and North Idaho Men won the 2017 NWAC Golf Championships at The Home Course today.
The Sasquatch ladies, who finished the regular season in third place led the regular season champions, North Idaho Cardinals 236 to 238 after Sunday's action, then turned in a great performance on Monday scoring a team 229 to the Cardinal's 236 to win by 11 strokes.
Columbia Basin took third with a two day score of 485 while Skagit Valley placed fourth with a 496.
Spokane was led by medalist Megan Cysewski who cruised to victory by seven strokes (148) over teammate Katie Hilliard who turned in a 155.
North Idaho's leaders were Mikal Jerman and Aly Mabey who tied for third place with a score of 157.
The title is Spokane's 13th dating back to the NWAC's first women's championship meet in 1992. Their last title was in 2011.
On the Men's side, North Idaho and the Bellevue Bulldogs repeated their tightly contested regular season finishes at 1-2 with the Cardinals squeaking by the Bulldogs by a score of 574-576.
The SW Oregon Lakers, who took fifth in the regular season, finished third with a score card of 583 to Spokane's 584 followed by Skagit Valley's 587.
The Lakers, who didn't have a player with the a top four finish, played solid team play led by Kobie Lockwood's 143 placing him in fifth.
Bellevue's Isaac Hall was the men's medalist with a great score of 136 to finish eight under par followed closely by Skagit Valley's Daniel Campbell and North Idaho's Ross Gilbert who turned in 6 under par scores of 138.
The title is North Idaho Men's first as a member of the the NWAC - the Cardinals joined the league during the 2014-15 season.
Ray Fabien of Southwestern Oregon was named the Men's Coach of the Year and Dan Clifford of Columbia Basin was the Women's COY.
