North Idaho and Columbia Basin claim Golf Championships

YAKIMA, WA -- The Columbia Basin Women and North Idaho Men won the 2018 NWAC Golf Championship at The Apple Tree Golf Resort in Yakima, WA. today.
The Lady Hawks, who finished second in the regular season behind Spokane, trailed by a single stroke to the Sasquatch in the first round Sunday, but improved in the second round to win by a single stroke, 489 to 500.
North Idaho was third with a score of 502 while SW Oregon finished fourth with a score of 516.
North Idaho was led by Medalist Madi Brown who turned in a best individual score of 159, two better than two-time Player of the Year Brianna Esvelt who turned in a 161 score.
Esvelt's teammate Breanna Watts was huge in helping to lead the Hawks to the team championship with a third place performance score of 162.
The title is Columbia Basin's sixth dating back to 1993, their first title and the first since 2014. CBC head coach Dan Clifford logs his third women's championship.
On the Men's side, regular season champs North Idaho claimed their second consecutive team championship since joining the conference during the 2014-15 season.
The Cardinals trailed the Bellevue Bulldogs by 4 strokes after the first round Sunday, but improved their score by eight strokes on Monday to end the day tied with the Bulldogs 580 to 580. NIC won the tie breaker to claim the championship.
Spokane, who took 5th in the regular season, finished third (597) while Grays Harbor, 6th in regular season, turned in a fourth place finish (601).
North Idaho's Sean Langham was the men's medalist, winning by two stokes (140) over Grays Harbor's Justin Cox.
Bellevue's Kevin Simmons and North Idaho's Brady Nelson tied for third with scores of 143.
