Bellevue Men and Green River Women claim golf team titles at Swanson Cup 2
Weather could not have been better for the Second Annual Swanson Cup. On a beautifully sunny day at Chambers Bay Golf Course, Bellevue Men and Green River Women snatched the team titles.
The Green River Women won the event fairly comfortably with a team 282 score, which bested the second place Olympic team by 17 strokes.
The Bellevue Men had to claw their way to victory, besting Olympic men by just 6 strokes. The Bulldogs final team score was an impressive 314.
The team scores wouldn’t be that impressive by most tournament standards. However, this was Chambers Bay and the tournament was played from the longest tees on the course.
Centralia’s Megan Shultz captured the women’s medalist honors by one stroke over Green River’s Wilkening.
The difference proved to be the devilish 9th hole. Although the 9th was the shortest hole played for the women, few ladies exited the green with less than a double bogey.
Shultz pared which just may have won her the title.
Grays Harbor’s Casey Brown earned the men’s medalist honors with the round of his college career thus far.
Brown shot 5 strokes better than his nearest competitor, shooting a 69. Casey carded 5 birdies and an eagle on the day.
On Hole 10, Brown holed out with a wedge from 120 yards to score an eagle 2 on the par 4 hole. From there, Brown never looked back at the field. He finished the back nine with a score of 31 and no bogies.
Women’s Champions: Green River (282)
Men’s Champions: Bellevue (314)
Women’s Medalist: Megan Shultz – Centralia (88)
