Rick Sweet was a former baseball and basketball athlete at LCC who helped lead the Red Devils to fourth place finishes in both sports at the 1972 NWAACC Championship Tournaments.

Sweet was an all-Coastal Division catcher in 1972 before moving on to Gonzaga University. From there, he enjoyed a successful pro playing career with the San Diego Padres, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners.

Sweet later became a coach for the Houston Astros and managed AAA teams in Tuscon, Ottawa, Portland and Louisville. He led Louisville to three straight Western Division titles (2008–10) and was named the International League Manager of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
