Mike Manley came to Lane in 1978 and led the Titans to three OCCAA and Region 18 women's cross country titles in 1979-81. His 1979 and 1980 teams were NJCAA National Champions.

Manley was twice named National Junior College Coach of the Year and was OCCAA Coach of the Year.

Manley competed two seasons at the University of Wisconsin and was the 1964 Big Ten champion in the outdoor mile. He ran the steeplechase at the 1972 Olympics and was a two time gold medalist in the event at the Pan-American Games in 1971 and 1975.
