Jack Bafus began his career in education as a teacher/coach at Stanwood High School before moving to Colfax and Pasco high schools. At Pasco, his baseball teams won two Yakima Valley district championships.

He was hired in 1965 to become the first baseball coach at Spokane CC. His baseball team won the WAACC state championship in their very first year of competition in 1965-66. Bafus then became the athletic director at SFCC and Spokane Falls teams won 5 NWAACC titles under his guidance.

He retired from higher education in 1979 and was named to the NWAACC Hall of Fame Roll of Honor in 1990.
