Gabe Sandy

Gabe Sandy

Mt. Hood Community College
Class of 2014

Dogged by injuries during his sophomore season at Mt. Hood, Sandy still led his team to the 1993 NWAACC Baseball Championship. He transferred to Portland State where he was a two-year starter. After finishing his collegiate career at PSU, Sandy returned to Mt. Hood as an assistant to his former coach, Dale Stebbins from 1996 through 1999.

When Stebbins retired after the 1999 season, former Mt. Hood Athletic Director Rob Nielsen tabbed Sandy as the next Head Coach. In his first season as head coach, the Saints won the 2000 NWAACC Baseball Championship.

In seven years as the head coach, his Mt Hood teams qualified for the NWAACC tournament seven times and placed in the NWAACC top three four times with one championship (2000). Under his guidance, the Saints won the tough Southern Region five times and never finished below 2nd. He was named the NWAACC Baseball Coach-of-the-Year following the 2000 season and the Southern Region Coach-of-the-Year in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006.

Since 2006, Gabe has served as Northwest Area Scout in the Miami
Marlins Major League Baseball organization. In 2013 he was inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) Athletic Hall of Fame.
