Class of 1989

A star athlete for Clark in the first two seasons of the WSJCAC, Vern Kindsfather earned all-league honors in basketball and baseball for the Penguins in 1947 & 1948.

He finished fifth in WSJCAC basketball scoring in 1948 with 189 points after ending the ’47 baseball season with a 1-0 win at Grays Harbor where he struck out 18 in a 7-inning game.

Kindsfather Went on to pitch in the professional ranks for 11 years, six with the Seattle Rainiers of the PCL.

He returned to Clark midway through the 1962 baseball season as head coach and held that position until his retirement in 1982. During his tenure, the Penguins won four South Division titles and won the WAACC Tournament championship in 1968 after placing second the year before.

A WWII Navy Veteran, Clark’s home field is named after him.
