Spokane sophomore Kendra Hamm and Olympic sophomore Jason Brocklesby claim the 2015 NWAC Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships today at Lane Community College.

Both day's events took place under mostly sunny skies.

Hamm and Brocklesby both took third place at the 2014 event.

Hamm was challenged strongly by teammate Brittany Dugger through day one with Hamm taking a narrow 5 point lead through the day one's action, 2686 points to 2681. The two posted the exact same results in Tuesday's opening event in the Long Jump. Hamm then put some distance between her and Dugger in the final two events to win with a 121 point margin.

Lane freshman Kylee O'Connor claimed third after tallying a second place finish in the 800m final event to knock Clackamas freshman Erica Pengally out of All-American contention. Pengally had held the third spot up until the 800.

Hamm's score of 4472 is the 17th best mark all-time in the NWAC Heptathlon.

The decathlon saw Brocklesby holding a 91 point advantage over runner up Colton Thurman (Lane, sophomore) 3598 - 3507 after day one completed.

Thurman then grabbed the lead in the opener of day 2 in the 110 hurdles, but Brocklesby responded by piling on some more points against Thurman in three of the final four events to take a 235 point margin of victory, 6493 to 6258.

Lane freshman Giovanni Brown posted a mark of 6124 to take third place and earn the final NWAC All-American honor.

The 2015 Track and Field Championships will resume on May 18-19 at Spokane Falls Community College [championship website].
