Clark's Joyce and Spokane's Cortez named 2016 NWAC Baden Soccer Players of the Year
CLARK - FRESHMAN - STRIKER
Molly Joyce, Brookings HS / Waimea, Kauai, HI, has been named the Women’s Soccer Baden Player of the Year. Joyce, a freshman forward for the Penguins, tallied 25 goals and 5 assists while leading Clark to a South Region title with a 11-0-1 region record and 14-3-1 overall.
Joyce’s 55 points was second most in the NWAC on the season and led to her selection as South Region MVP.
SPOKANE - SOPHOMORE - STRIKER
Jonathan Cortez, Moses Lake HS / Moses Lake, WA has been named the Men’s Soccer Baden Player of the Year. Cortez lit up scoreboards all over the NWAC the past two seasons and led Spokane to back to back championship appearances.
The East Region MVP led the NWAC in scoring both seasons, registering a two year total of 39 goals and 3 assists for 81 points.
Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 11
Tacoma - Sophomore - Goalkeeper
Evan Munn, Olympia HS / Olympia, WA, was vital in a pair of fourth-ranked Tacoma shootout victories this week. Munn and the Titans tied tenth-ranked Walla Walla 1-1 before a shootout in which Munn made three terrific saves to advance the Titans 3-1.
On Saturday, Munn would repeat the feat when TCC tied top-ranked Peninsula 2-2 after 110 minutes of play. Munn shocked the Pirates with three more PK saves to end the defending league champions run and send Tacoma into it's second straight Final Four with a 4-3 shootout win.
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 11
North Idaho - Sophomore - Forward
Megan Lowery, Coeur d'Alene HS / Hayden, ID, had a pair of assists in sixth-ranked North Idaho's 3-0 shutout over ninth-ranked Green River on Wednesday.
The win advanced the Cardinals to match up at Clark where Lowery scored the winning goal in the 90th minute to upset the third-ranked Penguins.
With 6 goals and 11 assists, Lowery now has 23 points on the season.
Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 10
Chemeketa - Sophomore - Forward
Julio Miranda, Glencoe HS / Hillsboro, OR, had four goals and an assist in a pair of pivotal matches this week. His two goals against ninth-ranked Portland helped sixth-ranked Chemeketa to a 2-2 tie against the Panthers. Miranda then tallied two more goals and an assist over Rogue to help lift the Storm to their first Southern Region title since 2011.
Miranda is now tied for 20th in the league in overall points with 18.
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 10
Highline - Sophomore - Defender
Sierra Leach, Clovis West HS / Fresno, CA, is center back on one of the stingiest defenses in the NWAC. Leach and her defensive teammates have tallied nine consecutive shutouts and eleven on the season. The Thunderbird defense has only allowed 9 goals in 17 matches for a .53 goals against average.
HC Head Coach Tom Moore praised Sierra, "She is a returning sophomore defensive player who has been a major factor in our 11 shutouts this year and the 13 from last year. She is a leader and converted forward. Sierra is dangerous on set pieces going forward and has 3 goals and an assist from the CB position."
Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 9
Spokane - Sophomore - Forward
Jonathan Cortez, Moses Lake HS / Moses Lake, WA, registerd three goals to lead the 3rd-ranked Sasquatch in wins over Wenatchee Valley and Treasure Valley this past week.
Cortez is currently 2nd in goals (16) and overall points (34) this season. He is a returning all-star for Spokane and led the league in goals (18) and points (39) during the 2015 campaign.
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 9
Spokane - Sophomore - Forward
Erica Simpson, Post Falls HS / Post Falls, ID, lit up the scoreboard for five goals and an assist in 2nd-ranked Spokane's wins over Wenatchee Valley and Treasure Valley this week. Simpson also scored the lone goal in the 87th minute to defeat Columbia Basin on October 15th.
Simpson is currently 8th in the NWAC in goals points (32) and tied for 5th in goals (14).

Portland - Freshman - Forward
Dominique Bates, Reynolds HS / Troutdale, OR, tallied two goals and a two assists in a pair of Portland victories over SW Oregon and Rogue this past week.
Bates is now tied for fourth place in overall points (21pts) this season with nine goals and three assists.
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 8
Peninsula - Sophomore - Defender
Kameryn Jury-Hale, Kamehameha HS / Waianae, HI, is center back for a Peninsula defensive squad that has allowed only 4 goals all season and has notched 11 shutouts in 13 matches played.
"Kam has been at the heart of what we have done this season," commented head coach Kanyon Anderson. "She is intelligent and skilled, tough and fast. The defensive effort of the entire team has been the reason for our success so far but we wouldn't be where we are without Kam's skill and leadership."
Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 7
Tacoma - Sophomore - Goalkeeper
Evan Munn, Olympia HS / Olympia, WA, came up huge with 7 saves in last Saturday’s big 3-0 win over #2 ranked Highline. The shutout marks number 3 on the year (T-6th in the NWAC).
Evan also tallied an assist in last Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Bellevue, his 2nd of the year and is currently 1 of only 2 men’s goalkeepers in the NWAC to have an assist this season.
Munn’s 80.8 Save% is currently 5th in the NWAC among all goalkeepers.
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 7
Highline - Sophomore - Goalkeeper
Rachel Thompson, Nikiski HS / Nikiski, Alaska, recorded her 5th and 6th shutouts on the season last week with a couple of wins over regional opponents Pierce and Tacoma.
In the home match vs Pierce, Thompson tallied 5 saves helping her team secure the 3-0 win. Heading into last Saturdays match, Highline and Tacoma were tied for 1st in the West, with 18 points. Thompson's 6 saves in that game were enough to hold onto the 1-0 victory, moving Highline into sole control of 1st place in the West.
On the year, Thompson has 60 total saves and an 86.9 Save% (6th in the NWAC).
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 6
North Idaho - Freshman - Midfielder
Jocelyn Cook-Cox, Lakeside High School/Nine Mile Falls, WA scored all three goals in the 3-1 victory over East Region playoff contender Treasure Valley last Wednesday.
Her first goal came out of a transition break capping it with a brilliant strike from nearly 40 yards out. She also had a solid performance on Saturday, scoring two goals in the 4-1 win over Columbia Basin.
Jocelyn currently leads North Idaho with 7 goals scored on the year.
Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 6
Peninslua - Freshman - Forward
Cesar Gervacio, Stein High School/ San Jose, CA, tied a Peninsula College single game record by scoring all 5 goals last Wednesday’s shutout victory against Shoreline. Cesar also contributed 2 goals and an assist in Saturdays 6-1 win over Everett. Last week’s 7 goal performance puts Cesar 3rd in the NWAC with 8 total goals and tied for 4th in points with 17 total.
Coach Rodriguez had this to say about Cesar, “He had a rough start to the season, missing three games due to injuries, but is now starting to show his potential. It’s nice to see him get the goals he deserved. People are starting to see who the real Cesar is.”
Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 5
Green River - Sophomore - Goalkeeper
Rachel Fieser, Mountainview HS/Auburn, WA, continued to anchor one of the league's stingiest defenses as the Gators defeated #2-ranked Highline 2-0 on Saturday. She was peppered by the Thunderbird offense, making 12 saves in the victory.
Fieser and the Green River defense have only allowed 4 goals in 8 matches this season and have tallied 4 shutouts.
Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 5
Spokane - Sophomore - Forward
Breno Rocha, Green Valley HS/Henderson, NV, scored all three of the Sasquatch goals in a 2-0 shutout of North Idaho and 1-0 shutout of Treasure Valley.
Rocha now has 8 pts on the season and ranks 18th overall in scoring. He finished the 2015 campaign with 22 pts (13th overall) on 9 goals and 4 assists.
Under Armour Men's Soccer Player of the Week - Week 4
Columbia Basin, Freshman, Forward
Jesus Delgado, Eisenhower High School/ Yakima, WA, scored three consecutive goals in the first 45 minutes to help the Hawks to a 3-1 win over ninth-ranked Spokane.
Delgado is now tied for fifth place overall in points with 11 on five goals and an assist.
Under Armour Women's Soccer Player of the Week - Week 4
Tacoma, Sophomore, Midfielder
Anna Gentile, Olympic High School/Port Orchard, WA, recorded a goal and an assist in each of Tacoma’s wins this week. She scored the game tying goal and the go ahead assist in a 3-1 win over Bellevue and tallied the game winning goal in the 85th minute in a 2-1 win over Lower Columbia.
Gentile is now tied for 7th in total points with 15 on five goals and five assists.
NWAC Soccer Players of the Week - Week 3
Mohamed Elmoghrbi - Edmonds, Sophomore, Forward
Mohamed Elmoghrbi, Jamal al Nasir/Tripoli, Libya, tallied a hattrick vs. Everett in Edmonds’ 4-1 win over the Trojans. Farajallah is now leading the NWAC in scoring with 16 points off of seven goals and two assists.
Molly Joyce - Clark, Freshman, Forward
Molly Joyce, Brookings High School/Waimea, Kauai, HI, registered six goals and an assist in three wins last week over Walla Walla, Columbia Basin and Chemeketa. Her hat-trick vs Chemeketa has lifted her to second place in scoring with 15 points overall.
NWAC Soccer Players of the Week - Week 2
Quinn Landrud - Pierce, Freshman, Defender
Quinn Landrud, Thomas Jefferson High School/Federal Way, WA ,scored a pair of goals to help the Raiders to a 3-0 win over SW Oregon and a tie vs. Chemeketa. Down 1-0 to the Storm, his goal in the 76th minute lifted Pierce to a 1-1 draw.
AdriAnna Simmons - Wenatchee Valley, Sophomore, Goalkeeper
AdriAnna Simmons, Ephrata High School/ Ephrata, WA, recorded 17 saves and a pair of shutouts to help the Knights a pair of scoreless draws against Whatcom and Green River. Both schools peppered the Wenatchee goal (WCC-8, GRC-9), but Simmons was impenetrable.
NWAC Soccer Players of the Week - Week 1
Kyle Weller - SW Oregon, Freshman, Goalkeeper
The 6’2” product of Wood River High School in Hailey, Idaho turned in 32 saves in two matches last week at the NWAC Fall Festival. His incredible 22 save count during the match against Columbia Basin kept the Lakers in the match and led to a 1-1 draw.
Claire Nelson - Everett, Sophomore, Forward
Nelson turned in a great weekend for the Trojans scoring a pair of goals in each of her two matches to earned her 8 pts and help lift EVCC to victories over Clark and Bellevue.
Her four goals on the early season is a great start for the former Cascade High School standout from the Everett area. She tallied a total of 8 last season.
