Under Armour Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 11

WALLA WALLA FRESHMAN FORWARD

Freddy Rodriguez, Hermiston HS / Hermiston, OR, had the loan goal in a 1-0 win over 7th-ranked Peninsula in the first round of the playoffs. He then scored against #4-ranked Portland and helped set up the 2nd score against the Panthers helping the Warriors to a 2-2 tie. WWCC ended up advancing to the final four in a shootout.

“Freddy is a great player that has really developed as the season has progressed," said Warrior head coach Ben Rotert. "He is a dynamic player that has the ability to turn and run at backlines with pace but can also play with his back to goal and hold the ball up well.  Freddy has tremendous energy and is active the entire match.  He has been influential in the later part of our season and playoff run.  Freddy has been directly involved in all our playoff goals.  He has a bright future, is a great teammate and we are very fortunate to have him apart of our team!”

TACOMA FRESHMAN FORWARD

Isabelle Creighton, Auburn Riverside HS / Auburn, WA, scored the lone goal in a 1-0 playoff win against Clackamas. She then followed up with a hat-trick for an 3-2 upset win over 2nd-ranked Walla Walla to advance the Titans to an NWAC Final Four berth.

Creighton is now second in the league in scoring with 24 goals to go with 4 assists. She is 2nd in points with 52 on the season.

“Izzy has been a team leader for us this season demonstrating with her work ethic and positive attitude," said Titan head coach Jill Green. "Her technical ability paired with her work rate puts her among the best in the league. She is second in the NWAC in goals scored with 24 and has all four of our goals in the playoffs. She is a first year player for us with a goal to study nutrition transferring for next season."

SPOKANE SOPHOMRE DEFENDER

Dominic Welch, Mead HS / Spokane, WA, has been a significant contributer to the Spokane defense all season. The center back has helped limit opponents two just 10 goals this season - second best in the conference. He has also contributed to the scoreboard for the 3rd-ranked Sasquatch with a goal and assist.

“Dom has been a two year starter at Center Back," said CCS head coach Kenny Krestian. "His ability to organize the team from the back has been a key part to our success.  Dom loves to block shots and is a true example of what a defender should be.  He is a key reason we have only given up 10 goals in 17 matches."

CLARK SOPHOMORE FORWARD

Facienne Graham, Ashland HS / Ashland, OR, has been a significant contributer for the Clark offense all season. She leads the team in scoring with 14 goals (6th in the league) and is second on the team in assists with 9. She has amassed 37 points for the 4th-ranked Penguins which is 6th best total in the NWAC.

“Facienne scored both goals in our final league game against Rogue enabling us to finish region play undefeated," said Clark head coach Sean Janson. "She has been a consistent goal scorer for us all season adding two more vs Portland earlier in the week. ”

PORTLAND FRESHMAN DEFENDER

Daniel Betancourt, Milwuakie HS/Milwuakie, OR, has been a force on for the Panther's defense, limiting opponents to just 10 goals in 13 matches this season. He is also a key player in the PCC offense generating scoring opportunities and has tallied 5 of his own to lead the team.

"Daniel has a great attacking spirit.," said PCC head coach Walter Arevalo. "He is a freshman with a goal to major in International Business. He is a strong student, a very respectful person and a great leader. Daniel loves the game and plans to continue playing soccer at a Div I University."

WALLA WALLA FRESHMAN FORWARD

Klarissa Barajas, Kennewick HS/Kennewick, WA, scored the Game tying and winning goal against #5-ranked Spokane. Then Followed that up with the a 3 goal performance against #7-ranked North Idaho College. Her 5 goal performance in the last two matches helped secure the Warriors' East Region title.

"Klarissa has been a constant contributor all year," said WWCC head coach Jordan Hacker. "She has improved her game since the very start of fall camp. She is a dedicated player and pushes the players around her to be better. This pushes all of us to better moving forward."

EVERETT FRESHMAN FORWARD

Aaron Byrne, Everett HS/Everett, WA, has been a force in the front line for the Trojans. On the week, Byrne scored three goals and an assist to keep the Everett playoff hopes alive. He is is the league's top scoring threat with 16 goals on the season and has amassed 35 points.

"Aaron is a very Dynamic player he is strong fast and a threat in front of goal." said EVCC head coach Erik Cruz. "His hard work in and out of practice have shown on the field by scoring in almost every game that he has played in."

PENINSULA SOPHOMORE MIDFIELDER

Sarah Reiber, Davis HS/Yakima, WA, has been a key factor on defense for the undefeated Pirates (11-0-0, 15-0-0). Peninsula has only surrendered 6 goals on the season which is the second best defensive team performance on the season. Reiber has also contributed to the potent offense with 5 assists on the year.

"Sarah is a strong, dedicated defensive mid who wins the ball back and covers for teammates well," said PC head coach Kanyon Anderson. "She does the important things that often go unnoticed and she does them really well."

WHATCOM SOPHOMORE DEFENDER

Eric Jones, Snohomish HS/Snohomish, WA, has been a key factor on defense for the undefeated Orcas. Last week Jones scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory over Everett and scored again in a 3-3 tie against 4th-ranked Peninsula as well as recording an assist. Jones has recorded at least one goal or assist in six of Whatcom’s last seven games as center back.  The backline has only allowed 9 goals against all season. Jones was also selected for Junior College player of the week on Tuesday by the United Soccer Coaches formerly known as NSCAA.

"Eric has been instrumental in the back line helping to lead an experienced group of players to a league leading 6 shutouts and only 9 goals against." said WCC head coach Jason Jorgensen. "Not only has he been a defensive threat in the air and on the ground he has a team leading 4 assists and 3 goals.  Eric is a great example of a leader on and off the field."

WALLA WALLA SOPHOMORE DEFENDER

Chelsea Marozik, Hanford HS/Richland, WA, has been a key component one of the league's best defenses. Last week against Wenatchee Valley she had three assists while helping to limit WVC to just four shots on goal. Then against Yakima, Marozik led the back line to shut out the Yaks, earning WWCC's NWAC leading 10th shutout of the year.

"Chelsea has taken on a leadership role this fall," said Warrior head coach Jordan Hacker. "A returning all-star centerback, she has continued to show her intelligence in the back keeping opponents at bay for the majority of the year. She has been contributing all over the field all year long. She is our second leading goal scorer and is tied for 3rd in assists. She has a passion for the game that every coach wants. Chelsea is big reason for us only conceding four goals in 14 matches."

HIGHLINE - SOPHOMORE - GOALKEEPER

Jocelyn Hanrath, East HS/Salt Lake City, UT, has been a key component in the league's stingiest defense. The 6'1" netminder has only allowed one goal in 10 games. She tops the conference with a .938 save percentage and a 0.15 goals aganst average while leading the Thunderbirds to eight shutouts.

"Jocelyn came to us from Utah and has really adjusted well the last year and a half," siad HC head coach Tom Moore. "Jocelyn has done a tremendous job in the net.  She would be the first to give credit to the defense in front of her.  The combination of Jocelyn and our back line has been great to watch grow this season.  We can only hope to have a chance to continue this kind of defensive effort for the remainder of the season."

ROGUE - FRESHMAN - DEFENDER

Mauricio Sanchez, Piedmont Hills HS/San Jose, CA, played a significant role in a 2-0 win over Clark and a 2-1 win over SWOCC this week. Sanchez was responsible for several important blocked shots, tackles, and clearances in both wins. He added a goal from a corner kick against SWOCC which proved to be the game winner.

"Mauricio is very dynamic and athletic defender, said RCC head coach Greg Millick. "His size and length make it very difficult to go past him. He is also extremely athletic in his pace and jumping ability. Mauricio is an embodiment of our core values here at Rogue. He strives for Excellence in everything he does."

Sanchez is a part of a defensive unit that has only allowed 3 goals this season. The backline and keepers have immense pride in not allowing goals and keeping clean sheets.

COLUMBIA BASIN - SOPHOMORE - FORWARD

Israel Gonzalez, Grandview High School/Grandview, WA., has been a force for the third-ranked Hawks. Last week he notched five goals and an assist which included the lone winning goal against fourth-ranked Spokane. Gonzalez has also played center-mid and time in defense's backline. He is tied for sixth in scoring with seven goals and two assists and is tied for sixth in points with 16.

"Israel is a dynamic player that strengthens our team in different capacities,"said head coach Brian Gochel. "He is a leader, both on and off the pitch. Our recent run of form is a byproduct of Israel's and the team's commitment to improving each day. It is a joy to see Israel's and the squads development".

PENINSULA - SOPHOMORE - FORWARD

Syndey Warren, Tahoma High School/Maple Valley, WA.,tallied a hat trick on five shots on goal to help lift the top-ranked Pirates to a 6-0 win over sixth-ranked Whatcom. She then added two more goals and an assist in a victory over Edmonds. Warren leads the NWAC in points with 31 on 13 goals (1st) and 5 assists.

"Sydney is strong,fast and focused, said head coach Kaynon Anderson. "She works exceptionally hard in training and in games.  She plays her position very well and is calm in front of the goal. Besides scoring goals she does a really good job of defending and setting her teammates up. She is a kind and humble person so it’s fun to see her having so much success."

HIGHLINE - FRESHMAN - FORWARD

Ryley Johnson, Lynnwood High School/Lynnwood, WA., has been a force for the top-ranked Thunderbirds all season. The lightening fast and crafty freshman forward tallied four goals in big wins over region rivals Bellevue and Pierce last week. Johnson is tied for second in the league in goals (7) and second in points with 15. He has a .524 shot on goal percentage and leads the league in game winning goals with three on the season.

"Ryley has been very dynamic in the attack for us this year," said T-Bird head coach Steve Mohn. "He is a incredible athlete and is always a scoring threat. He score a hat trick against Bellevue in the first 27 minutes last Wednesday and scored a late goal against Pierce to put the game or of reach."

COLUMBIA BASIN - FRESHMAN - FORWARD

Kaile Leiolani Kauanui, James B Castle High School/Kaneohe, HI., set a school record for assist in a match with eight vs. Blue Mountain and added a 9th on the week against Treasure Valley. Her nine assist puts Kauanui at the top of the conference leader board.

"Kaile 'Lei' is still on the hunt for her 1st goal in region play," said CBC head coach Omar Smith. "At the moment, she has taken on the role of providing goals until that time comes. She showcased brilliant vision and play making ability along with true character and unselfishness in our game against BMCC. The freshmen Hawaiian native earned the player of the match award."

WHATCOM - FRESHMAN - GOALKEEPER

Rusty Crowder, Mililani High School/Mililani, HI., is an impact player in an Orca defense that has only allowed three goals in five matches this season. He is third in the league in goals allowed average with a 0.5 average.

Crowder GK was named WCC's Sportsclip MVP for Saturday's Game against Skagit Valley where the Orcas shutout the Cardinals. On Wednesday he held the NCAA Division 1 University of British Columbia UBC Thunderbirds to just a single goal in a 1-1 draw.

Gabrielle Nicodemus, Mead High School/Spokane, WA., is a key component in the Yak defense that has only allowed 2 goals in three matches this season.

YVC head coach Drollinger commented, "Gabby anchors the Yak’s the defensive line.  She is an extremely smart and tenacious player, helping her defensive line hold opposing teams to only two goals so far this season.  She has a way of break up an attack before it happens and reads the plays well even before they develop.  She is a physical player, but she also a great team leader and has brought a level of professionalism and poise to the team.  We are excited to have her and continue to expect great things as she develops this season."

Kayla Heidenreich, Bellingham HS/Bellingham, WA, registered 4 goals on seven shots in the Friendlies matches at Starfire Stadium. She helped lead the Orcas to a pair of lopsided victories and is currently second in goals on the season.

Pedro Castro, Highline HS/Burien, WA, tallied 5 goals and an assist in the open week Friendlies matches at Starfire Stadium. His five goals came on 9 shots and he is currently tied for top goals and points (11) in the conference.

CLARK - FRESHMAN - STRIKER

Molly Joyce, Brookings HS / Waimea, Kauai, HI, has been named the Women’s Soccer Baden Player of the Year. Joyce, a freshman forward for the Penguins, tallied 25 goals and 5 assists while leading Clark to a South Region title with a 11-0-1 region record and 14-3-1 overall.

Joyce’s 55 points was second most in the NWAC on the season and led to her selection as South Region MVP.

JONATHAN CORTEZ
SPOKANE - SOPHOMORE - STRIKER

Jonathan Cortez, Moses Lake HS / Moses Lake, WA has been named the Men’s Soccer Baden Player of the Year. Cortez lit up scoreboards all over the NWAC the past two seasons and led Spokane to back to back championship appearances.

The East Region MVP led the NWAC in scoring both seasons, registering a two year total of 39 goals and 3 assists for 81 points.

Tacoma - Sophomore - Goalkeeper

Evan Munn, Olympia HS / Olympia, WA, was vital in a pair of fourth-ranked Tacoma shootout victories this week. Munn and the Titans tied tenth-ranked Walla Walla 1-1 before a shootout in which Munn made three terrific saves to advance the Titans 3-1.

On Saturday, Munn would repeat the feat when TCC tied top-ranked Peninsula 2-2 after 110 minutes of play. Munn shocked the Pirates with three more PK saves to end the defending league champions run and send Tacoma into it's second straight Final Four with a 4-3 shootout win.

North Idaho - Sophomore - Forward

Megan Lowery, Coeur d'Alene HS / Hayden, ID, had a pair of assists in sixth-ranked North Idaho's 3-0 shutout over ninth-ranked Green River on Wednesday.

The win advanced the Cardinals to match up at Clark where Lowery scored the winning goal in the 90th minute to upset the third-ranked Penguins.

With 6 goals and 11 assists, Lowery now has 23 points on the season.

Chemeketa - Sophomore - Forward

Julio Miranda, Glencoe HS / Hillsboro, OR, had four goals and an assist in a pair of pivotal matches this week. His two goals against ninth-ranked Portland helped sixth-ranked Chemeketa to a 2-2 tie against the Panthers. Miranda then tallied two more goals and an assist over Rogue to help lift the Storm to their first Southern Region title since 2011.

Miranda is now tied for 20th in the league in overall points with 18.

Highline - Sophomore - Defender

Sierra Leach, Clovis West HS / Fresno, CA, is center back on one of the stingiest defenses in the NWAC. Leach and her defensive teammates have tallied nine consecutive shutouts and eleven on the season. The Thunderbird defense has only allowed 9 goals in 17 matches for a .53 goals against average.

HC Head Coach Tom Moore praised Sierra, "She is a returning sophomore defensive player who has been a major factor in our 11 shutouts this year and the 13 from last year.  She is a leader and converted forward.  Sierra is dangerous on set pieces going forward and has 3 goals and an assist from the CB position."

Spokane - Sophomore - Forward

Jonathan Cortez, Moses Lake HS / Moses Lake, WA, registerd three goals to lead the 3rd-ranked Sasquatch in wins over Wenatchee Valley and Treasure Valley this past week.

Cortez is currently 2nd in goals (16) and overall points (34) this season. He is a returning all-star for Spokane and led the league in goals (18) and points (39) during the 2015 campaign.

Erica Simpson, Post Falls HS / Post Falls, ID, lit up the scoreboard for five goals and an assist in 2nd-ranked Spokane's wins over Wenatchee Valley and Treasure Valley this week. Simpson also scored the lone goal in the 87th minute to defeat Columbia Basin on October 15th.

Simpson is currently 8th in the NWAC in goals points (32) and tied for 5th in goals (14).

Dominique Bates, Reynolds HS / Troutdale, OR, tallied two goals and a two assists in a pair of Portland victories over SW Oregon and Rogue this past week.

Bates is now tied for fourth place in overall points (21pts) this season with nine goals and three assists.
