Chemeketa vs Peninsula, November 14 – 6:00pm
Chemeketa survived a thriller last Saturday upsetting the number 1 ranked Highline Thunderbirds.
The first half was back and forth, locked at 2 goals apiece. After Chemeketa had scored 9 minutes into the second half, Highline drew things even with just 6 minutes to play in regulation.
Then in dramatic fashion after 20 minutes of scoreless overtime, the Storm completed the upset 5-4 in penalty kicks.
Leading scorer for the Storm, Elvis Pavon recorded his 14th goal of the season, and Corvallis native Leonardo Monrroy racked up 8 saves.
Peninsula entered the NWAC playoffs as the #2 ranked team, and after putting away a stubborn Walla Walla team 1-0 in the quarterfinals, the Pirates turn all attention to Chemeketa.
The Pirates return 8 sophomores from last year’s playoff team and combine that experience with some talented freshman. Jonathan Martinez (FR) leads the team with 12 goals and Jonathan Vasquez adds 6 assists.
Peninsula and Chemeketa last met in the 2014 Friendlies. The Pirates won that game 5-1.
