Lane hires Galas to head the new men's soccer program
Lane Community College has hired John Galas to be the coach of its new men's soccer team, athletic director Greg Sheley announced Wednesday.
Galas, who has extensive experience in professional and collegiate soccer, will add coaching duties at Lane to his current position as coach of the Lane United FC of the United Soccer League's semi-pro Premier Development League.
"We have hired an excellent coach who brings a wealth of experience at both the intercollegiate and professional levels," Sheley said in a news release. "Coach Galas will be able to step right in and help our student-athletes academically and athletically, putting Lane CC men's soccer in a great position to be successful."
The men's soccer team and a women's volleyball team will begin play next fall.
Galas' resume includes stints as an assistant coach for the Portland Thorns during their NWSL championship season, being a staff member for the MLS's Portland Timbers and time spent with the Real Salt Lake Academy. He also has worked with college soccer programs at Florida State, Oregon and Arizona, which included multiple appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
