Shefts named Bellevue Women's Soccer Head Coach
Bellevue, WA -- Alexander (Sasha) Shefts begins his first year as Head Coach for the Bellevue College women's soccer program as of Dec. 1, 2009, after serving as an assistant for the men's team for the past three years. Shefts brings an impressive background to the Bulldog soccer program with previous success at the professional, collegiate and high school levels.
Currently, Shefts is also involved as the assistant coach for the Seattle Sounders women's team, the director of coaching for Seattle's largest youth club organization (Laurelhurst, View Ridge, Ravenna) and is owner of Successful Soccer Systems, a company that specializes in offering speed, agility and quickness training in small group settings.
Shefts' coaching background is extensive, with stints at the club, high school and professional levels. His club experience includes over 25 years coaching "A" level teams. He has captured seven state championships with teams such as Emerald City FC, Crossfire and FC Alliance. He was soccer head coach at Holy Names Academy for four years from 2004-2007. His '07 squad took third in the state 3A championships and he was named Coach of the Year by the Seattle Times. He is a former assistant for the Seattle Sounders in the Professional Developmental League and a Region IV Olympic Development Program scout. Shefts holds a USSF National "A" License, an NSCAA Director of Coaching diploma and earned a B.A. from Seattle Pacific University in 1984.
Shefts was a standout on the national champion Seattle Pacific University squad in 1983.
