Highline's Prenovost breaks men's soccer win record

DES MOINES, Wash. — Highline Community College men’s soccer coach Jason Prenovost, of Lake Tapps, became the all-time winning men’s coach in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College (NWAACC) on Oct. 9.

"For 17 years it has always been about the student-athletes and the college for Jason, but today, it is about Jason and his accomplishments,” said Highline Athletic Director John Dunn. “We are extremely proud to have Jason as our head coach and are honored to be part of this major milestone.”

“I have received great support from Highline through the years and the president, faculty and Athletics department created an environment to allow for this to happen,” Prenovost said. “I share this honor with all my current and former players.”

Prenovost passed the previous record holder and former longtime coach of the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Community Colleges of Spokane, the late Cor van der Meer, after a 4-1 win over Southwest Oregon Community College on Highline’s pitch Saturday afternoon.

In his 17th year at Highline, Prenovost has amassed a 227-74-52 record with a winning percentage of more than 75 percent. He coached the team to the NWAACC championship title in 2004.

He formerly played for Federal Way’s Thomas Jefferson High School and was part of two state championship teams in 1986 and 1988. In addition, he played for Highline from 1988-90 and Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu from 1990-92.
