Skagit Valley’s Nao Iwamoto is crowned Men's Tennis Champion after day 1 action

Day one is complete!  The 2014 NWAACC Tennis Championships has completed the first day of competition.

Skagit Valley’s Nao Iwamoto won the single’s championship.  The freshman from Japan defeated Spokane’s Blake Lynd 6-0, 6-4 then won a marathon match with Treasure Valley’s Jonahs Joudrey 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

The men’s doubles competition will occur tomorrow.  Currently Treasure Valley is leading the race for in team competition with 81 points.  Spokane is right behind with 76.  Skagit Valley currently has 58 points. 

Treasure Valley collected three single’s titles today while Spokane had two and Skagit one. 

Rixing Xu
Bellevue's Rixing Xu is going for her second NWAACC Tennis title. Xu will face Skagit Valley’s Kilee Beuse in Saturday's championship match.

In the women’s competition, 2013 reining single’s champ, Bellevue’s Rixing Xu, finds herself back in the finals after cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Treasure Valley’s Vanessa Adams.  Her opponent tomorrow will be Skagit Valley’s Kilee Beuse.  Freshman Beuse defeated Spokane’s Sara Letsch 6-1, 6-0.  Xu defeated Beuse in their previous two meetings. 

Xu and Beuse will meet again in the double finals.  Xu and teammate Kristy Braunston defeated Treasure Valley’s Vanessa Adams and Hannah Farmer in a hard-fought match, 6-3, 6-4.  Beuse and teammate Hayley Newman cruised past their first round opponent, Spokane’s Letsch and Heather Birge, 6-0, 6-1.

Action resumes at 9am tomorrow at Spokane Falls Community College (depending on weather).
