After leaving Spokane Coach Spatz went on to Eastern Oregon University where he coached from 1988-2002, including 12 years as head track and field coach from men and women.
“Just the thought of coaching in the same program as many of my coaching heroes is hard to believe," said Spatz. "There are some big shoes to fill, and I look forward to working hard to stay on top. I am so grateful to the committee, the academic faculty, Ken Burrus and the administration for this chance to come home and contribute to a school that has always meant so much to me over the years.”
Joining Spatz will be Lindsey Kunkel. She comes to Spokane after severing as a grad assistant last year at Western Oregon University, a Division 2 school in Monmouth, Oregon. Kunkel will facilitate the sprints, jumps, and hurdles.
Spatz is excited on Kunkel joining the staff, "Lindsey is an awesome hire. Her graduate work and coaching experience at NCAA division 2 Western Oregon University leaves her highly prepared to help take our program to the next level. She has a wide range of experience from meet administration to working with student athletes from sprints, hurdles, jumps, and middle distance. Great to see her start her coaching career with us."
