2010 Red Lion Scholarship Award Winners
Women's Red Lion Scholarship
Nancy Johnson, Walla Walla
Nancy was played for the 2010 NWAACC Women’s Basketball Champions, Walla Walla. She was the leading rebounder for the Warriors averaging 8 boards a game and the second leading scorer with 15.17 points per game. Nancy was named to the 2010 NWAACC All-Tournament First Team and was a member of the Eastern Region First team. In addition to getting it done on the court, Nancy also excelled in the classroom. She managed a 3.96 GPA while majoring in philosophy. She was a member of the Presidents List every academic quarter. She plans to continue her studies at Carroll College in Helena, Montana where she will also continue playing basketball. She will major in public relations. Walla Walla women's head coach says "Nancy's leadership at our school speaks for itself. She is well-known and well-respected by students and staff alike. Her character is unmatched, and she is the type of student-athlete that a coach dreams about."
Men's Red Lion Scholarship
Jeff Ranstrom, Big Bend
Jeff played men's basketball at Big Bend Community College the past two seasons. Jeff led the Vikings in scoring (15.79 ppg) and rebounding (8.54 ppg) this season. He was an East Region Second Team All-Star in 2009 and an Eastern Region First Team All-Star in 2010. Jeff plans to pursue a bachelors degree in History Education at Eastern Oregon University. He says his ultimate career goal is the be a history and basketball teamer. “I am attracted to teaching as a profession because of the potential to influence people's lives." Big Bend Athletic Director states "Jeff is very dependable and an extremely hard-working individual. Jeff is a competitor and strives to be the best not only on the court, but also in his personal life."
