Clark loses a legend
Vancouver, Wash- Le Roy Burns, a longtime Clark College track and field coach passed away January 22, 2008 in Vancouver at the age of 79. Burns had been involved with the Clark track and field since 1980. He servers as head women's coach between 1980-82 and served as a volunteer in 1983 after Clark made track and field a club sport. When the program was revived in 1989, Burns was the head coach until 1992. He was named NWAACC women' s Coach of the Year in 1992.
Burns was inducted into the NWAACC Hall of Fame in 2002.
Clark's annual home track and field meet has been known as the Roy Burns Invitational.
Mr. Burns served with the U.S. Marine Corp during Korea and for 30 years in the Reserve.
An open house is scheduled for Sunday, January 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 14, 4607 NE St James Rd Vancouver, WA 98663. All former students, athletes, friends and families are welcome.
