Burbank and Bates win 2008 Decathlon & Heptathlon

Photo of Bruce Burbank and Danica BatesGresham, OR - Lane Community College swept the NWAACC Multi-Event titles as Bruce Burbank took the Decathlon and Danica Bates won the Heptathlon.

Brubank and Clackamas' Joe Gobel battled back and fourth for the lead throughout the day. Gobel held an 134 point advantage going into the 1500 meter final event, an event that favored Burbank. Burbank cruised to a solid win earning 720 points to Gobel's 562 giving Burbank a 24 point overall lead and the Decathlon title while Gobel finished runner-up.

The Heptathlon didn't hold quite as much drama as Danica Bates, who finish day one slightly behind Clark's Brooklyn Holton, took first or second in three of the four events to cruise to a 343 point victory over Mt. Hood's Amber Glunt. Glunt moved up from fourth yesterday through steady competition throughout the day and a first place finish in the 800 meter final event.
