Chemeketa volleyball coach Stephenson headed to Western Oregon University
SALEM -- Chemeketa Community College head volleyball coach Traci Stephenson has been named the new assistant volleyball coach at Division II Western Oregon University.
“I leave Chemeketa with a grateful heart for the past 9 years,” Stephenson said. “This has been a great home, where I have made meaningful relationships, had some wonderful experiences, and was always supported by an outstanding group of people in the athletics department. My time at Chemeketa will always be an important chapter in my life and one that I am thankful to have had.”
“Chemeketa is extremely grateful for Traci’s years of outstanding service and leadership with the Storm,” Athletic Director Cassie Belmodis said. “The success Traci, her coaching staff and her student-athletes displayed during her tenure was impressive.”
Stephenson spent nine years with the Storm volleyball program, eight as head coach. Her teams won 172 regular season games and had a winning percentage of over 60 percent in Southern Division play. In seven of those seasons, Chemeketa qualified for the NWAC championship tournament. Twice, in 2015 and 2017, Chemeketa entered the tournament at Southern Division champions.
Then there was the 2017 season, where Stephenson’s squad rallied to win the NWAC Championship. For her role in the title run, Stephenson was named NWAC Coach of the Year.
Stephenson was also named American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Two-Year West Region Coach of the Year in 2015 following a 37-4 season.
“Traci’s time as head coach at Chemeketa was truly special,” Belmodis added. “We are very excited for her and her family and wish her continued success at Western Oregon.”
