Red Devils Survive WVC's 9th Inning Rally to Win 11-9, Advancing to Sunday
LONGVIEW, Wash. - The Lower Columbia Red Devils defeated Wenatchee Valley 11-9 in an elimination game in Game 9 of the 2026 NWAC Baseball Championship on Saturday afternoon at David Story Field.
The Red Devils led 11-4 heading to the ninth inning before the Knights put on a furious comeback attempt. After a ground out to start the inning, the Knights got the next seven batters on base on three singles, three walks and an error to make the score 11-8 with the potential go-ahead run coming to the plate. Brendan Bowyer then came into the game, striking out the first batter he saw. After a bases-loaded walk by Teyton Hardeman to put the tying run in scoring position, Bowyer ended the game with another strikeout to earn the save.
Lower Columbia got the offense going early and often, needing all the run support they could get to close out the win. LCC scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth and put a big five-spot on the board in the fifth. They tacked on two insurance runs in eighth which proved to be crucial.
Jaylen Kennedy went 1-for-3 with three RBI for LCC, while Jackson Wendt and Jackson Noonan each had two hits and two RBI apiece. Graham Learing had a strong start, allowing two runs over six innings to earn the win.
The Knights got on the board in the second inning and took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Carter Christensen. Christensen later brought in another run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk. Jack Engell later hit a two-run home run in the seventh to make the score 9-4. LCC answered back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Jaylen Kennedy hit a sacrifice fly, and Wendt drove in his second run of the game.
Lower Columbia advances to Sunday and will next take on either Everett or Lane at either 12 p.m. or 4:05 p.m..
The Knights complete their historic season with their fourth ever trip to the NWAC Championship and first since 2008, earning their first tournament win since 2006. They finish with a 32-21 record and a top-six finish in the NWAC.
