Warriors' Offense Breaks Out in 4th Quarter to Defeat Clackamas 57-44 in NWAC Elite 8
PASCO, Wash. - The Walla Walla Warriors earned their second-straight berth in the NWAC Final Four as they defeated Clackamas 57-44 in the 2025 NWAC Women's Basketball Championship on Friday night at Columbia Basin College.
In a rematch of the 2024 Sweet 16 contest, the Warriors once again got the best of the Cougars in another defensive battle. After allowing a tournament-low 29 points to Centralia on Thursday, the Warriors relied on their defense again and timely scoring to down the Cougars. Going 0-of-8 shooting threes through the first three quarters, Walla Walla broke out for five three pointers in the fourth quarter and ran away with the double-digit win.
Brielle Magnuson led the Warriors with an impressive performance, scoring 23 points and securing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Hadley Fraas was another key player, contributing 14 points and nine rebounds while also recording 3 steals. Hallie Arnold provided a boost off the bench, scoring 7 points and pulling down 3 rebounds.
The Warriors concluded the first quarter trailing the Cougars by one point, with a score of 15-14. In the second quarter, the WWCC trailed the Cougars by two points, giving Clackamas a 30-27 halftime advantage. Magnuson scored a late basket just before the buzzer to help cut into the Cougars' halftime lead.
WWCC outscored the Cougars 10-7 in the third quarter, taking a 37-37 tie into the fourth quarter. They forced five turnovers and held Clackamas to 3-for-16 shooting in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors outscored the Cougars 20-7, securing a strong lead that culminated in a significant 16-point advantage with two minutes left on the clock. The Warriors' shooting caught fire, hitting seven of 14 field goals and converting five of seven 3-pointers.
Toni Coleman led the Cougars with 16 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, while also contributing three steals. Coleman left the game due to injury late in the third quarter and was unable to return, affecting the Cougars scoring output in the fourth. Braylee Riturban had a team-high five assists. Samara Lugo was strong on the boards, securing 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, and added six points to her performance.
Walla Walla completes the Final Four teams in the women's tournament and will next face South No. 2 seed Umpqua in the semifinals, which will be a rematch of the same game last season. The game will be played on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m.
