Roadrunners Outlast Riverhawks 7-5 in 10-Inning Battle to Advance to Championship Monday
LONGVIEW, Wash. - The Linn-Benton Roadrunners defeated Umpqua 7-5 in a back-and-forth 10-inning game on Sunday at the 2025 NWAC Baseball Championship to advance to Monday's finals at David Story Field.
A battle of the top-two teams in the South Region, the Roadrunners and Riverhawks had split the season series three to three, setting up for a game seven in the tournament. Both teams were evenly matched that it took extra innings to decide a victor.
In the top of the 10th, Conner Boyd started the offense with a one-out single. Kolten Lindstrom followed up with a single and the pair each advanced on a wild pitch. Andrew Demianew then had the big hit, driving both runners with a two-run single to put LBCC up 7-5. Relief pitcher Ryan Rivers closed things out, giving up one hit in a scoreless bottom of the 10th.
After a scoreless first four innings to start the game, the Roadrunners opened the offense as Demianew drove in Boyd. Jake Dodge then followed up with a two-run home run to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead.
Starter Caden Richardon was dealing through six innings for LBCC before running into trouble in the seventh. With one out, the Riverhawks loaded the bases on three straight singles. Then with two outs, Tristan Schaefer started the scoring with an RBI single. Carson Dunn brought in two more on a single and Zane Bidwell gave UCC its first lead with another RBI single. After a passed ball and wild pitch, Dunn came home to give Umpqua a 5-3 lead after seven.
In the top of the eighth, the Roadrunners got two runs right back. After a pair of errors by Umpqua, B. Avery hit a two-RBI single to tie the score back up at 5-5.
Rivers and Umpqua relief pitcher Hunter Robinson went back and forth with scoreless innings until the Roadrunners broke the tie in the 10th.
Demianew led LBCC with a 3-for-6 day, a run scored and three RBI. Dunn led Umpqua with a 2-for-5 game, a run scored and two RBI. Jackson Thomsen was 3-for-4 for UCC.
The Riverhawks complete an outstanding year as they qualified for the NWAC Championship for the first time in program history, finishing 2-2 and with either a third or fourth place trophy.
Linn-Benton continues on in the tournament and will play on Championship Monday. They will either play Tacoma or Spokane on Monday at 12 p.m., needing to win two games on Monday to win back-to-back championships.
